Birthdays are special milestones, and we understand the excitement and joy they bring to our students. To ensure that birthday celebrations are enjoyable for everyone while maintaining a focus on learning, we have established the following guidelines:
1. Morning Meeting acknowledgement:
○ Students will be recognized with a happy birthday round of applause.
i. Please contact your child’s teacher if your child does not want recognition.
2. Classroom Celebrations:
○ Timing: Birthday celebrations will take place during lunchtime or the last 15 minutes of the day
to minimize disruption to instructional time.
○ Advance Notice: Please notify your child’s teacher at least three days in advance if you plan to
send in treats.
○ Treats: You may send in store-bought treats for your child’s class. Please consult with the
teacher regarding any food allergies or dietary restrictions within the class.
○ Non-food option/items: Consider non-food items such as stickers, pencils, or small toys as
alternatives to edible treats.
○ Deliveries of balloons, flowers, etc are not permitted.
3. Invitations:
○ Distribution: If your child is having a party outside of school and you wish to distribute
invitations at school, please ensure that all students in the class are invited to avoid hurt
feelings.
4. Special Considerations:
○ Visitors: If you would like to visit your child and help pass out treats, please inform the teacher
at least three days in advance.
i. Visitors must check in at the office and get a Visitor’s badge
ii. Visitors are kindly asked to depart promptly at the conclusion of the celebration to
ensure that lunchtime or end-of-day procedures run smoothly.
iii. To maintain a manageable classroom or cafeteria environment, no more than two family
members may attend the celebration.
○ Photography and Recording:
i. Privacy Considerations: To respect the privacy of all students, photography and video
recording during birthday celebrations are not permitted unless prior approval is
obtained from the teacher and the parents/guardians of all students being
photographed or recorded.
○ Birthday Book Donation: In lieu of treats, consider donating a book to the classroom or school
library in honor of your child’s birthday. This can be a meaningful and lasting way to celebrate
their special day.
