Our Focus on Education Day and Kjelstad Burwash Farm Videos are now Available!

Over a year ago, the Nisqually Land Trust approached the Eatonville School District with a

proposal to take possession of the Burwash Farm in the Ohop Valley just South of the

intersection of Mountain Highway and Kjelstad Road.  After close work with the Nisqually Land

Trust, Pierce County officials, and our legislators at the county and state level, Eatonville School

District is poised to receive the deed for the farm, and embark on an initiative that will benefit the

entire district.

The potential of the farm creates an abundance of unique opportunities for Eatonville students

to learn sustainable farming, innovative STEM opportunities, and serve as a ripe ground of

innovation for decades of possibilities for Eatonville School District.  Additionally, this site will be

used for 21st century project-based learning for Eatonville students.

Our hope is to have the final acquisition of the 3.5 acre farm by March.  There is so much more

to come, and we will be engaging all of our stakeholders.  Students, staff, and community are

welcome to be part of the visioning discussions as we are actively pursuing restoration grants to

fund the renovation and restoration of the barn and outbuildings into current agriculture and

laboratory space for the farmers and scientists of the future.

To learn even more about the farm, the Burwash family, and the myriad of people involved in

this innovative journey, please watch the video created by Eatonville High School students on

our YouTube Channel.
