Elementary Programs

Hello,

I am excited to be teaching a highly capable specialist class at your child's elementary school every Monday for 1.5 hours. This model, called Young Scholars, will give your students an opportunity for weekly support as a gifted student. Attached is a letter with some information. I have also attached a flyer for our orientation on September 12th. I'd love for each of your students to join me this school year. Orientation is a great opportunity for me to meet each of you and your child to help them get a feel for our program and get to meet other kids in the district they will get to attend field trips with. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions. You should also be receiving communication from our district's Teaching and Learning Director, Sally Keeley.

Thank you,

Annelise Dattilo

Highly Capable Program Offerings 23-24

Welcome to the 2023-24 school year. We are excited to offer expanded highly capable programs and instructional time. Our Highly Capable K-8 staff will be piloting the new Cambridge curriculum starting in October. Overview of the Cambridge program can be viewed here:  Cambridge

We are launching the following services for our students:

ELEMENTARY PROGRAMS

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade Scholars

Students will have a separate class for 1.5 hours once a week (Mondays) at their school with a Highly Capable teacher, Mrs. Dattilo (a.dattilo@eatonville.wednet.edu).

The Scholars program is a pull-out enrichment program for identified highly capable students.  Students work with peers in a rigorous environment of discovery and exploration.  The context of the enrichment is literature and science, with an emphasis on vocabulary and the scientific process. The enrichment model allows for multi-age grouping and intellectual peer socialization..

3rd, 4th and 5th grade  SAIL (Student Advanced Individual Learning) at CCA

The SAIL program will be held at Columbia Crest Academy on Wednesdays (all day). CCA school hours on Wednesdays are 8:30am-2:05pm.  Transportation is provided for all Highly Capable students to CCA through their direct bus route. Our intermediate grades Highly Capable teacher is Mrs. Lisa Backlund (l.backlund@eatonville.wednet.edu).

SAIL is a self-contained class for eligible students’ district-wide in grades 3rd-5th grades.

The curriculum is inquiry and project based, allowing for in-depth extensions and creative expression. The classroom is differentiated from traditional classrooms by the intellectual rigor, accelerated pace, autonomous learning, greater depth, and breadth of content, and structured inquiry.
