OFFICES AND SERVICES

Offices and Services

All visitors/guests are required to sign-in in the Main Office (South Hall) and obtain a visitor’s badge.

Main Office

The main office greets staff, students and guests and provides information for visitors about our school. It is the goal of the main office to handle clerical tasks for administrators, staff and students. Any concerns about the facilities or school grounds should be brought to the attention of the main office. Services provided by the main office include:

● Receiving payment of any type (fines, fees, ASB, yearbooks, etc.)

● Building use requests

● Dance permission forms

Attendance Office

Attendance is the single-most important factor in determining academic achievement.

Good Attendance Strategies Students who have good attendance are sure to do the following:

● Stay healthy, get plenty of sleep, eat a balanced diet, wash your hands regularly, and make sure you are up to date on your immunizations.

● Make a plan for good attendance. Keep a copy of your school calendar accessible.

● Ask your parents to make appointments outside of the school day or on non-school days.

● Know the time you need to arrive at the bus stop.

● Keep up on your school work. Students will often be anxious and tempted to miss school if they have not done their homework or studied for a test. Approach each day with confidence.

● “Report-It.” If you are not attending because someone is harassing, intimidating or bullying you, it has become a serious issue and it is time to enlist the assistance of an adult.

Excused Absences

An absence will be considered unexcused if the parent/guardian does not excuse the absence within two (2) days following the student’s return to school. The BECCA process will be followed for unexcused absences. Parents must provide the school with a valid reason for an absence before it can be excused. The following constitute valid reasons for excused absences according to state law:

● Personal illness, physical or mental health condition, or medical or dental appointment

● Appearance in court when required by law

● Disciplinary action, i.e., in-school, short-term, or long-term suspension

● Religious observance

● Family emergency, i.e., funeral, death, hospitalization

● School-approved activities, i.e., field trips

● Pre-arranged absence approved by administration

When a student is absent:

● The parent/guardian emails the attendance secretary (Heather Kimball at h.kimball@eatonville.wednet.edu) on or before the day of the absence. The email must include the student’s first and last name, the date(s) of the absence, and the reason for the absence.

● If the parent/guardian was unable to email, the student brings a note from a parent/guardian to the Attendance Office following an absence. The note must include the student’s first and last name, the date(s) of the absence, and the reason for the absence.

Early Dismissals

If a student must leave school during the day for any reason (medical, dental, disciplinary), a dismissal slip must be obtained from the Attendance Office.

● A written request for dismissal, to include both the time and reason for dismissal, should be presented to the Attendance Secretary before school on the day of the early dismissal.

● If a student becomes ill during the day, an early dismissal slip will be issued by the nurse or the office after contact with the parent/guardian has been made and authorization has been given for the student to leave school early.

● Parents or guardians must provide valid identification prior to the release of a student.

Late Arrivals

● If a student arrives at school late, he/she will report to the Attendance Office to check in to school. Parent/Guardian should provide a note, with the estimated time of arrival and a valid reason for the late arrival, to submit to the Attendance Secretary for the absence to be excused.

● If a student has been detained by a teacher and will be late to the next class, it is necessary to obtain a hall pass from the teacher who detained the student in order to be excused. If a student is late to class for personal reasons, it is required that the student comply with the teacher’s class rules for tardiness.

Students with a Partial Schedule at Eatonville, including Running Start and PCSC students

● Students who have a late arrival or early dismissal are to arrive no earlier than ten (10) minutes before their first class begins and/or leave campus no later than 10 minutes after their last class ends.

● Students must have written parent/guardian permission before signing up for late arrival and/or early dismissal.

Truancy

● Students are truant when they are willfully, and without authorization, absent from class, all or part of the day, or all or part of a class period.

● Failure to check out of school and obtain an Early Dismissal Slip through the main office before the end of the regularly scheduled day will be considered truancy.

● Consequences, including Becca procedures, and discipline will be implemented for incidents of truancy.

Planned Family Activities

● A parent/guardian may request that a planned family activity be approved by completing a Pre-Arranged Absence form, available in the main office.

Extended Illness/Absence

● If a student is absent for more than five (5) school days due to illness or another health-related issue, a doctor’s note will be requested along with the parent/guardian notification. For any school absence, please email teachers directly and/or check the Google Classroom for missed work.

For any school absence, please email teachers directly and/or check the Google Classroom for missed work.

Washington State Attendance Requirements

State law and district policies and regulations require daily and punctual attendance of all students unless officially excused. Parents and students are both responsible for assuring attendance.

Students who have a pattern/history of absences or tardies for personal illness may be required to have a note from a healthcare professional to excuse further absences or tardiness due to personal illness.

Becca Bill Attendance Requirements

Under Washington State Law, RCW 28A.225, parents are responsible for their student’s full-time school attendance. Schools must take action to prevent unexcused absences. After one (1) unexcused absence, schools contact parents by letter or phone. After three(3) unexcused absences, the school will schedule a parent conference to discuss solutions. After seven (7) unexcused absences within a 30 day period, EHS and the District may begin to file a petition with Juvenile Court. Court action is required if a student has seven (7) unexcused absences in a month or fifteen (15) in a year. Students with a current court order compelling school attendance on file will have a progress report filed with the courts with only one (1) additional unexcused absence.

Complete District Attendance Policies can be found on the District Website, Policy 3122, Reg. 3122R, RCW 28A.225 or in the Student Rights, Responsibilities & Regulations.

Guidance Office

The high school guidance program consists of a set of services conducted by certificated school counselors. High school counselors spend a significant portion of their time assisting students to meet graduation requirements and planning for post-high school experiences including advising and scheduling for both graduation and future plans. Counselors provide information regarding college entrance requirements, vocational-technical training programs, military opportunities, financial aid and scholarships, testing, and other requirements of post-high school training institutions. Counselors review transcripts and graduation status, identify students who are credit deficient, refer students to programs that may fit their needs and interest (Running Start, Vocational programs through outside institutions, etc.). Counselors also review students’ class schedule changes. They provide information regarding the sequence of coursework. Arrangements to see a counselor may be made by signing in at the front desk. Other Guidance Office services include:

● Academic planning by assisting students in selecting and scheduling high school courses

● Maintenance of academic records

● Classroom presentations, i.e., four-year plan/post high school planning, health issues, counseling issues

● Individual and group post-high school planning, career counseling and guidance

● Coordination of information about career and technical education programs, colleges, financial aid, Military programs and scholarships

● Coordination of academic, college and vocational testing and test interpretation

● Consultations with teachers/parents to assist in identifying possible learning disabilities and working to resolve academic problems

● Coordination of information for drug/alcohol intervention and assessments

● Personal counseling with students

● Parent and student referrals to outside agencies

● Consultation with Child Protective Services and law enforcement

● Assistance in teacher/ student / parent conference

Class Schedule Change

Any change of class schedule must be done on the schedule change form with a counselor in the Guidance Office (appointments required). The change must occur within 10 school days of the beginning of the new semester. Any change between day 11 and day 45 may result in No Credit, indicated on the student's transcript as a W for withdrawn. Classes dropped after 45 days will result in No Credit, indicated on the student's transcript as an “F.” The course that the student enters after receiving the "W" or the "F" will result in no credit being granted due to the lack of instructional time remaining in the semester.

Request for Transcripts

Students must complete the designated form to request Official Transcripts. This form can also be found on the Eatonville High School website. Please allow at least seven (7) days for processing these requests.

Components of Graduation

The school board will award an Eatonville High School diploma to every student enrolled in the district who meets the requirements of graduation established by the district. The board will establish graduation requirements for an Eatonville High School diploma, which, as a minimum, satisfy those established by the state board of education. Current credit requirements for an Eatonville High School diploma are:

Class of 2021 and beyond

English (reading, writing and communications).................................................................. 4 credits

Mathematics........................................................................................................................3 credits

Science (physical, life and earth; one laboratory credit)..................................................... 3 credits

Social Studies (civics, history and geography)....................................................................3 credits

Health and Fitness...............................................................................................................2 credits

Arts *One credit may be a PPR – see below....................................................................... 2 credits

Occupational Education........................................................................................................1 credit

World Languages *One or two credits may be a PPR – see below......................................2 credits

Electives...............................................................................................................................4 credits

TOTAL................................................................................................................................24 credits

Personalized Pathway Requirements (PPR) are up to three course credits chosen by a student to meet specific post-secondary career or education goals that align with the student’s interests and High School and Beyond Plan. PPR credits may replace one of two arts credits and both world language credits, in any combination of these credits up to a total of three PPR credits.

In addition to academic requirements, students must have completed their High School and Beyond plan (managed through Xello) and all fines and fees must be paid. Students must meet all graduation requirements in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. The school reserves the right to restrict a student’s participation in the graduation ceremony if it is deemed by staff that the student may be a possible danger or disruption to the ceremony.

Health Services

The Health Room is available for students who are not well enough to attend class. The Health Room is available for temporary care, and is not intended for long-term care or for issues that can wait until the end of the school day. Students may also visit the Health Room to take pre-arranged medication. The Health Room is open daily during school hours. Students must have a timed and signed pass upon arrival in the Health room, unless it is during their lunch time. If medical attention is necessary during class time, students must obtain a pass from their teacher before leaving for the Health Room. Students may only visit the Health Room between classes if they have obtained a pass from the teacher whose class they will be attending next. All visitors to the Health Room will be signed in and logged for future reference. If students are too ill to return to class, a parent/guardian will be contacted and arrangements will be made for early dismissal.

Immunizations

All students must provide medically verified proof of up-to-date immunization records before enrolling.

Medication

Every effort should be made to schedule the administration of medication outside of school hours. District policy allows only oral medication, on the instruction of a physician, to be given at school. No prescribed medication shall be administered by injection by the staff, except when a student is susceptible to a predetermined, life-endangering situation. The following procedures must be followed in order for medication to be administered at school:

● The medication must be in a container labeled by the pharmacist at the time the prescription was filled, and must be labeled with the student’s name, medication, dosage and time to be administered. (Many pharmacists will label two containers, one for home and one for school.)

● A form indicating the medication, dosage, time to be given and the expected duration of administration must accompany prescription medication. The form must be signed by a physician as well as the parent/guardian.

● Forms are available in the main office and online. Non-prescription/over-the-counter medication may only be administered on the order of a physician, must be in the original, manufacturer-labeled container, and must be accompanied by the afore-mentioned form.

● All medication will be kept in a locked cabinet and will be administered by designated staff, under the direction of the district nurse.

● Students who need to carry an inhaler on his/her person must have a form on file, indicating need, signed by a physician and parent/guardian.
