Dear Families,I am delighted to be your child’s 4th grade teacher this year and am looking forward to a very exciting and productive year. I have been working with children in a variety of contexts for many years, but must say that I am as thrilled as ever to be a part of the great educational team at Columbia Crest A-STEM Academy for this upcoming year.
My academic background includes a Bachelor in Science from Texas A&M University and a Master in Teaching from City University of Seattle. My experience ranges from work as a house parent in a residential facility for children with learning disabilities through volunteering in an outreach program for street-involved youth in Tacoma. I interned at Northwest School of Innovative Learning, which focused on serving emotionally and behaviorally disordered students. I have trained with a Phoenix-based organization serving exploited youth and volunteered for over a decade with 5th and 6th graders, serving as the preteen ministry leader in my home church. For a number of years, my wife and I also opened our home to teenagers in need of completing their high school education. I have years of professional mountain guiding and worldwide travel and I enjoy sharing these interesting life experiences when they enrich the classroom.
Finally, you and I are vital partners in your child’s education and I welcome communication with you. Feel free to call, write a note, or email anytime you have a question, comment, or concern. I very much look forward to meeting you and getting to know both you and your student. Working together, I am expecting a great 4th grade year!
