Public Notice of Destruction of Special Education Records

 

Notice is hereby given that the Eatonville School District intends to destroy at the conclusion of the school year the special education records of students who have separated from all special education programs on or before June 30, 2017.

In accordance with the WAC 392-172A-05235 the maintaining of records is only required for six years after which all special education data and information regarding students who have withdrawn, transferred, or graduated from the district will be destroyed. Included in this process are the records that are more than six years old of students no longer attending special education programs. Includes psychological and IQ test results, eligibility decision documentation, evaluation and other reports, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), correspondence, and other information regarding the student.  Former students who have reached the age of 18 and/or parents of current or former students under the age of 18 have the right to review the records and obtain copies of information needed. Destruction of educational records.

(1) Each school district shall inform parents and adult students when personally identifiable information collected, maintained, or used in compliance with this chapter is no longer needed to provide educational services to the student, or is no longer required to be retained under state or federal law. State procedures for school district records retention are published by the secretary of state, division of archives and records management, and specify the length of time that education records must be retained.

(2) The information shall thereafter be destroyed at the request of the parent or adult student. However, a permanent record of a student's name, address, and phone number, his or her grades, attendance record, classes attended, grade level completed and year completed may be maintained without time limitation.
