proposal to take possession of the Burwash Farm in the Ohop Valley just South of the
intersection of Mountain Highway and Kjelstad Road. After close work with the Nisqually Land
Trust, Pierce County officials, and our legislators at the county and state level, Eatonville School
District is poised to receive the deed for the farm, and embark on an initiative that will benefit the
The potential of the farm creates an abundance of unique opportunities for Eatonville students
to learn sustainable farming, innovative STEM opportunities, and serve as a ripe ground of
innovation for decades of possibilities for Eatonville School District. Additionally, this site will be
used for 21st century project-based learning for Eatonville students.
Our hope is to have the final acquisition of the 3.5 acre farm by March. There is so much more
to come, and we will be engaging all of our stakeholders. Students, staff, and community are
welcome to be part of the visioning discussions as we are actively pursuing restoration grants to
fund the renovation and restoration of the barn and outbuildings into current agriculture and
laboratory space for the farmers and scientists of the future.
